about the artist

"Drawing is the first and final medium - with nothing in between…Drawing is indistinguishable from sculpture - carving something out of nothing - marking, chopping, hacking, pushing, pulling something into view," - Chloe Piene

How do I, as an artist, put such weight, impact, and meaning into the lines I draw so that there is no doubt this is the final form a creation was meant to take? How do I carve something out of nothing? Or, maybe even more difficult, how do I carve something new out of something old? These are questions I attempt to explore in my work through a variety of mediums; charcoal, chalk pastels, collage, pencils, graphite, ink, markers, bandaids.. etc.
